Flying start – Overview for Employers

Brighter Futures Social Investment CIC (BFSI) are pleased to announce that we have been selected by the Department for Transport (DfT) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to deliver their “Reach for the Sky Challenge Fund” program. This initiative is designed to inspire the next generation of aviators and secure the future of the UK aerospace and aviation industry.

Through our ‘Flying Start’ program, we focus on empowering young people from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds, including women, to become work-ready through our proven Soft Skills programme. We bridge the gap between talent and industry needs, through:

  • Selecting young people with the right motivation and attitude to impress employers.
  • Delivering practical activities on soft skills, so they can contribute positively to the workplace.
  • Opportunities for employers to meet these young people and cherry-pick the best ones to provide practical experience of work.

Building a Diverse Talent Pipeline

Our soft skills program addresses long-term workforce sustainability by diversifying the latent hard to reach talent pool and ensuring a steady flow of skilled individuals ready to meet the growing demands of the aerospace and aviation industry.

We are actively seeking aviation and aerospace employers to

collaborate with us in building this vital talent pipeline.

We are collaborating with BAe Systems in Rochester, to ensure the Flying Start programme better meets the needs of employers in this industry.

James Brumer is in charge of Employer engagement and will be keen to speak to employers, particularly if they have staffing issues, or can give a start in life to a deserving young person.

Deb Sen would love to speak to any groups working with NEETs and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, or with contacts in secondary schools (including STEM schools).

If you feel that motivated and committed young people (16-25) with strengths and interest in engineering, technology, design, testing, etc. could make a difference to your future workforce, fast-track this by contacting us today:
